Roger Swire HAUGHTON (March 15, 1846 - January 22, 1919)

Listed as a Justice in Kingston and Notary Public (since 1877) in St. Thomas in the Jamaica Handbook of 1900. Listed as proprietor of Bowden Pen in 1878 St. Thomas Parish Directory. Named Managing Commissioner of the Kingston General Commission, in 1899 to the Jamaican Legislative Council (The Gleaner, March 24, 1899). Nominated on April 20, 1891 by the Governor to be Government Director of the Jamaica Railway Company, in place of L. F. Mackinnon, Esq., resigned. (Royal Gazette, April 23, 1891).
 

A will for Roger Swire HAUGHTON is listed in the Island Records Office Index for 1889, 1914-1923, 1925:
Haughton, Roger Swire, Melrose, Caledonia Crescent, St. Andrew, #47 Item 7, 1919

Roger Swire HAUGHTON  wrote at least four letters to his uncle Philip SWIRE in Louisiana on stationery from the Colonial Bank in Kingston, Jamaica, where he was employed. The letters date from 1871 to 1872.
